 The 31 Ist  Road Safety Week observance began with an awareness rally in the district on Saturday.It is pertinent to mention here that a slew of programmes have been planned by the Motor Vehicles Department in Association with District Administration,Police Administration and Jamkash Vehicleads in the city and sub division from January 11 to 17.

The road safety awareness rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Mohammad Nazir Sheikh in the presence of Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Sher Singh,Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Mohd Ashraf,Deputy Director Planning Bilal Mir,Assistant Regional Transport Officer Inzar Ahmed Rana,Inspector MVD ,Rajeev Bhas in,Media persons and other District Officers.The rally which was taken out from the bus stand and passed through main roads, and finally culminated at PWD Dak Bunglow Rajouri.


Press club member,Sumit Bhargav while speaking on theoccasion highlighted the major causes of the accident.He also appealed theDistrict Administration Rajouri to identify the Accident prone areas along theHighway from Bambla to BG and requested for the installation of crash barriersat such points.

 

Senior Superintendent of Police Yougal Manhas while speakinginformed that in 2019,430 number of accidents have been reported where 75persons have lost their lives.He said that major reason of accidents arecarelessness,driving by minors and drink/drugs and driving cases.He said theneed of the hour is to create awareness among the stakeholders and parentsshould play an important role in making of Accident free society.He alsosuggested that the driving ethics should be incorporated in the curriculum.

The students in the rally were holding flags,banners,pamphlets and posters for disseminating information on road safety among commuters,drivers and other local people.
